On January 1, 2025, as the final night of Hanukkah coincided with the dawn of a new year, community members gathered in West Hartford Center near the Noah Webster statue to light the menorah. This candle lighting event, organized by the Hartford Jewish Organizing Collective and Jewish Voice for Peace, provided a space for reflection, unity, and hope. Participants brought their own menorahs and candles, joining together in a collective act of remembrance and solidarity. The gathering also served as a fundraiser for We Will Return, a Connecticut-based nonprofit dedicated to humanitarian efforts in Gaza, including providing advanced prosthetics and rehabilitation services to individuals affected by conflict. See Fox61 News reporting on this event. This event exemplified the enduring spirit of community and the commitment to supporting those in need, both locally and globally.
