On August 3rd, International Watermelon Day, we hosted a Sip and Paint event and fundraiser with Semilla Collective at Mazorca in solidarity with Palestine. We raised $936!
Our dear friend and amazing local creative Jisu Sheen will be facilitating the session as we all paint beautiful watermelon themed art pieces representing the palestinian steadfast resilience @gogumamathoughts is a narrative artist based in New Haven, seeking to re-allocate dignity and beauty through painting, video, and sculpture. She is proud to participate in her communityâs efforts to stay human at the heart of the empire. We will also conversate and learn about the history of the watermelon in Palestinian art and how in this moments of censorship the image of the watermelon has once again taken a very political meaning.
All remaining funds will be directed to local Palestinian solidarity organization @wewillreturnpse whom we trust will direct the funds appropriately since they support Palestinians on the ground as well as organizing and education efforts here in the so called U.S. We want to thank @semillacollectivenhv and @nimbusviajero for all the support, help, love and patience in organizing, and providing art material for this event. Couldnât have done it without you! $45+ to register Includes art materials, courtesy drinks and snack Please register HERE ðâ
