The ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to cause immense civilian suffering, much of which is exacerbated by military support from external nations, including the United States. U.S.-made weapons, such as airstrike munitions, have been used in operations that violate international humanitarian law, leading to the deaths of civilians and destruction of essential infrastructure. Amnesty International has documented multiple cases where U.S.-supplied arms were used in unlawful strikes, including attacks that killed children and families in Gaza (Amnesty International USA). This raises serious ethical concerns about the role of arms suppliers in fueling violence and prolonging the conflict. Halting the transfer of arms to Israel could serve as a significant step toward holding parties accountable for violations of international law. Human Rights Watch has called on the U.S. to suspend its arms transfers to Israel due to concerns over their use in disproportionate and indiscriminate strikes on civilian areas (HRW). By stopping the flow of arms, the international community can help push for a peaceful resolution that prioritizes human rights and the protection of civilians, rather than enabling further violence. It’s time to reevaluate these policies and focus on diplomatic solutions to achieve lasting peace.
